Canestrelli are a traditional butter biscuit that can trace their origins back to the middle ages, and were a traditional gift to newly married couples.
Originally originating from Liguria in the North west of the country they can now be found throughout Italy
These 'melt in the mouth' butter shortbread biscuits are made using boiled eggs and lemon zest and are finished with a dusting of icing sugar.
